Requirements to Become a New Jersey Certified Home Health Aide

Please understand that completing the training program does not automatically result in certification.To embark on a rewarding career as a Home Health Aide in New Jersey, aspiring individuals must meet the following requirements.

After completing the program, graduates must complete the New Jersey Board of Nursing application and certification process.

  • Training Program Completion: Complete a state-approved Home Health Aide training program, like the one offered here at Right at Home. You must also pass an exam.
  • Board of Nursing Application: Each graduate is responsible for completing and submitting their own CHHA application to the New Jersey Board of Nursing. There is an application fee of $80.
  • Criminal History Background Check: Applicants are responsible for following the Board of Nursing’s instructions and completing required fingerprinting/background check requirements.
  • School Documentation: Committed Care Solutions will submit the required Letter of Completion and applicable school documentation to the Board of Nursing when the student’s application is in the appropriate stage.
  • Promise of Employment: A Promise of Employment must be provided by a prospective CHHA employer. Completion of the training program does not guarantee employment or a Promise of Employment from Right at Home.
  • Application Follow-Up: Applicants are responsible for monitoring their application, checking their email and application checklist, responding to Board requests, and following up regarding outstanding requirements.
